Dr. Mayuri Baruah /Assistant Professor (Grade I)

Department of Production and Industrial Engineering, National Institute of Technology Jamshedpur, India

Dr. Mayuri Baruah is an Assistant Professor (Grade I) in the Department of Production and Industrial Engineering at the National Institute of Technology Jamshedpur (NIT Jamshedpur), India. She received her Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering (Design and Manufacturing Science) from the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT Guwahati), where her doctoral research focused on experimental investigations and numerical modeling of plasma and laser micro-welding processes. She has been actively engaged in teaching and research in the fields of advanced and intelligent manufacturing, with research interests including welding technologies, additive manufacturing, numerical modeling, fracture mechanics, advanced machining, manufacturing process optimization, Python, and machine learning applications in manufacturing. Her recent research activities cover laser welding, micro plasma arc welding, underwater friction stir welding, laser directed energy deposition, dissimilar material joining, sustainable manufacturing, and AI-assisted manufacturing processes. She has published extensively in reputed international journals, including Optics and Laser Technology, Journal of Materials Processing Technology, Materials Science and Engineering: A, and The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, and has contributed several book chapters and edited volumes published by Springer. Dr. Baruah has participated in and led research projects, including the TEQIP-III sponsored project on experimental investigation of steel-to-aluminum dissimilar joints reinforced with additives using vibration-assisted micro plasma arc welding, and has collaborated with Tata Steel on laser beam orientation studies related to manufacturing applications. She is actively involved in international academic activities as an invited speaker, conference organizer, and technical contributor in the areas of welding, laser manufacturing, additive manufacturing, and artificial intelligence in manufacturing. She has also contributed significantly to academic administration and laboratory development at NIT Jamshedpur, including the establishment of advanced welding and non-traditional manufacturing laboratories and supervision of postgraduate research projects. Her achievements include the Best Presentation Award at the Conference on Advances in Laser & Arc Cladding Technologies (ALACT 2023), the Second Best Presentation Award at DCAIR-2025, and the recognition of “Female Welding Educationist (2026),” reflecting her significant contributions to advanced manufacturing, welding science, and sustainable industrial technologies.
